The pit dropped out of my stomache
The second I saw you there
Laughing and talking
As if you were
The perfect manifestation
Of a dream
So real as to be
Unbelievable
And yet...
There you stood
As if three months
Had never existed
As if time had just
Stood still
You were there
In all your glory
Bringing with you
Not our second chance
But a new birth altogether
Testifying in your warm eyes
To the strength
Of such a bond as ours
Proving in your touch
That air and fire
May burn out of control
But still they come together
To clean away what they must
And to pave new roads
For whatever must come after
There is a finality in death
That is broken only in living
In the details of everyday
To face that and to know
Is the gift that you've given
A bond such as ours
May very well die
A bond such as ours
May very well be destroyed
But we all have our incarnations
And so we two
Shall rise up from our own ashes
And be reborn
As a pheonix
